Pt. Dume Access Road - Emergency Project

In August 2026, severe high surf and extreme tides eroded the coastal bluff along Westward Beach Road at Point Dume, undercutting the roadway and forcing the County to close the access road and parking lot to the public. Larison Contracting Corporation was engaged by the County of Los Angeles Department of Beaches & Harbors on an emergency basis to design and construct a rock revetment to arrest further erosion and protect the roadway. Working within the tight windows available at extreme low tide, Larison crews furnished and installed a layered rock revetment section along the affected shoreline: a quarry-run rock foundation, a core rock layer, and an outer armor layer of 3–7 ton rock engineered to absorb direct wave energy. The work required close coordination with tide schedules, rapid mobilization of specialized rock materials, and precision placement in an active tidal and marine environment.
