East Garden Grove – Wintersburg Channel Improvements
Orange County Flood Control District – Reyes Construction
The improvements began at the tide gates located at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands area and ended upstream of Warner Avenue, approximately 9,600 linear feet. The improvements included construction 70,000 cy of deep soil-mixed cement columns sandwiched between two rows of steel sheet piles along both sides of the channel; 18 million pounds of sheet piles were installed using the “press-in” method. The scope also included excavation of the earthen embankment to widen the channel to increase the channel flood conveyance capacity for a 100-year event. Additional work includes slope repairs on critical locations at the downstream of the project and a recreational trail and ramp construction for the general public's access to the Bolsa Chica trail network and the Wetlands area.
